Out & About: Inside Smart Energy Training Centre’s new Stourbridge facility

Staff and guests cheer as a ribbon is cut to open a new Smart Energy training centre.

Juliet Loiselle, Editor and Publisher of Heat Pumps & Renewables Journal (HPR), recently attended the open day at Smart Energy Training Centre’s newest training facility in Stourbridge.

The purpose-built centre has the capacity to train groups of eight to ten delegates simultaneously and features five modern classrooms. Expansion remains a key strategic focus for 2026, with ambitious plans to establish up to 20 training centres across the UK. This growth will be achieved through a combination of acquiring established, high-quality training providers and investing in new purpose-built facilities.

Smart Energy Training & Assessment Centres, part of the Realise Training Group, was originally established in 2016 as Smart Gas Training & Assessment Centre. Since then, it has developed into a trusted provider of gas, plumbing, heating and renewable energy training, supporting the industry’s growing demand for skilled professionals.

As part of its continued expansion, the organisation has strengthened its presence across the Midlands through the acquisition of Energy Training Centre in Nottingham and Elements Training & Assessment in Stourbridge.

The company delivers a comprehensive range of training programmes across three core disciplines:

  • Gas
  • Plumbing
  • Renewables

As the energy sector continues to evolve, Smart Energy Training & Assessment Centres is continually expanding its course portfolio to equip engineers with the specialist skills and qualifications required for the transition to low-carbon technologies.

With training centres located across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and the West Midlands, the organisation is also among the UK’s training providers delivering the Level 3 Low Carbon Heating Engineer Apprenticeship, helping to develop the next generation of skilled professionals for the renewable energy sector.
