New research from Glow-worm1 into what creates the most gripes for installers when it comes to getting into heat pump installs has revealed that, although many are keen to develop their heat pump skills, the time, paperwork and complexity involved in everyday admin is holding some back.
In response, and true to its ‘Without the Faff’ approach, Glow-worm is helping installers unlock new opportunities with its brand-new Grow with Glow MCS Partner Programme, hot on the heels of its latest no nonsense GeniaAir air source heat pump systems.
The findings of the research challenge the perception that some installers are reluctant to embrace low carbon heating technology. Instead, the research suggests the real barrier is something much less dramatic: faff.
The survey of more than 275 heating installers found that two-thirds (66%) want to learn more about heat pumps. However, while 43% are actively looking for training opportunities, almost a quarter (23%) say they simply don’t have the time to upskill.
That lack of time is easy to understand. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of installers spend at least two hours every day on admin, while more than a quarter (28%) spend three hours or more dealing with paperwork, scheduling and compliance tasks. On the lighter side, more than half (56%) said customers, children or pets getting in the way, and constant chat and questions from customers (53%) were also challenges that added to the daily mix!
With demand for low carbon heating continuing to grow, Grow with Glow has been designed to remove some of the barriers preventing installers from taking their first steps into heat pumps.
The programme connects installers with MCS-accredited partners, providing the support needed to deliver MCS-compliant heat pump installations without having to take on the full burden of accreditation, compliance and certification themselves.
